Proposal for Goa's Airport

We find that other airports across India fall short to make the optimum of their geographical context. The materials used do not compliment the climatic conditions, making the architecture alien to the culture and location. Koh Samui Airport proves that it is possible to be both environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing.

We studied the vernacular architecture of Goa pulling out architectural features that create something that is appropriate to its context. This airport has been designed to fit sensitively into its surroundings whilst being kind to the environment. Built using local materials such as laterite, terracotta, burra stone and kota stone; the largely open-plan design often negates the need for air conditioning. The new terminal at the airport combines the ambiance of a tropical resort and incorporates it with a contemporary Indian design, impressing the visitors with the minimalistic architecture.
